Your host, Jill Wakeford, a P.E connoisseur, singles enthusiast and after much enjoyment from being a contestant on Come Dine With Me SA, discovered her true love of entertaining and organising events. “It’s singles events in particular that I am passionate about. Being single, especially in Port Elizabeth, can be very hard. And sometimes you just want to hang out with other singles and not feel like a spare wheel with your married or attached friends.”
Do you just walk up to someone in a restaurant/pub/cinema and say “Hi, please be my friend?”… I somehow don’t think so. So what do you do?
Having spent a few years overseas and attending a variety of singles events herself, Jill realised that PE was in dire need of such an avenue for the single scene and wanted to inject some international flavour. “I want to create a comfortable, classy and fun platform for singles to be themselves and meet other singles in a stress free and safe environment. Guests must feel free to mingle and chat if they want to. There is never any pressure to do anything. These events are for my guests, and it’s always up to them how much or how little they want to interact. And of course I am always on hand to make sure everyone is happy.”

Magnetic Storm has undertaken to keep the rose and garden festivities alive and have launched a garden focussed event in Port Elizabeth, to take place at The Boardwalk on the Festival Lawns in October. Based on the familiar family game Monopoly, Gardenopoly focuses on the buying of properties and upgrading them by purchasing new garden fencing, laying lawns and beautifying them with pots, plants and an abundance of colourful decorations. It teaches the principles of buying and selling property with the goal of adding value to one’s holdings in the form of garden accents and outdoor assets. In the same way, our principles for this event are fundamentally the same, with an added human element. The tag line,” together we grow,” has a two-fold meaning as our incentive for the event. The automatic assumption of growing plants, gardens and beautiful things would be the natural course, but we include in our mission, the growing of minds, skills and outlook of individuals, families and communities. Our commitment to sharing knowledge, ideas and experiences provides an open field for learning and interaction to enable new practices and strategies for improved knowledge and understanding for the sake of individual growth. Jumping Castle, Zip Line, Puppet Shows, Face Painting, Balloon Animals, Giant Board Games.
