13 August 2019 – PRETORIA – In a recent release, Topco Media announced the finalists for the 16th annual Standard Bank Top Women Awards. As a leader in gender empowerment, Maureen Grosvenor has been nominated in the “Top Gender Empowered: Women in Tech” category.
As one of South Africa’s most prestigious gender-empowerment events, the Standard Bank Top Women Awards recognises those organisations and individuals whose efforts are uplifting women in business and society in general.
With a focus on providing opportunities for women in the workplace, Maureen has shown a consistent commitment to driving gender parity. One of her greatest innovations was when she was responsible for was developing supply chain software to assist rural subsistence farmers in Mozambique and Zambia to store and sell their produce effectively using technology. In fact, the company won two international awards for this innovation and the team responsible for this product were mostly women.
In addition, Maureen climbed Kilimanjaro as part of the Woman’s Day Expedition lead my Professor Thuli Mandonsela. Maureen climbed for social justice, women’s dignity and to help keep young girls in school.
Maureen leads by example and hope to inspire more young women to enter the STEM space as their career. Maureen wants to know that her legacy involved making a better life for someone and their family by giving them a job and a purpose. are testament to this.
Finalists and winners at the Standard Bank Top Women Awards have been a source of inspiration to women and men in business, encouraging their industry peers to be passionate about the upliftment of women in South Africa and inspiring the younger generation to reach for the stars. With its excellent performance in this sphere, Maureen hopes to do the same.
Maureen commented, “A large portion my team consist of woman with skills in database administration, software development, project management, software support and business analysis. In the spirit of paying it forward and motivated by the internship opportunity I got at the start of my career, APPSolve also has an Internship program where we create job opportunities for both school leavers and graduates. This year alone we have filled 3 new positions. My vision, as the business grows in these innovation spaces, is to continue creating jobs in the STEM sector for young girls.”
The Standard Bank Top Women Awards ceremony will take place on 15 August in Johannesburg. Winners will be announced at a gala dinner on the evening attended by business and government leaders, VIPs and members of the media.
