La Petite Colombe marks its one-year anniversary with Spring menu special

La Petite Colombe marks its one-year anniversary with Spring menu special:

This Spring not only marks the start of a new season, but also the one-year anniversary of La Petite Colombe, nestled alongside Leeu Collection’s Le Quartier Français Hotel in the beautiful winelands town of Franschhoek.

Under the leadership of Head Chef John Norris-Rogers, the past 12 months have already seen La Petite Colombe receive its fair share of nominations and awards, including Conde Nast’s Best Hotel Restaurant, a nomination from American Express Diners Club, and the title of Eat Out’s Best New Restaurant in 2017.

Says Norris-Rogers, “Being the sister restaurant to the world-renowned La Colombe comes with a certain amount of pressure. Set against exceptionally high expectations, I’m particularly proud of what our team at La Petite Colombe has accomplished, and the skills each team member brings to the restaurant. We have had a great year to date and were completely humbled by the response to our opening, and will continue to strive to deliver the very best guest experience.”

Norris-Rogers is quick to emphasise the role each of his team members has played in their success and representing the philosophy behind La Petite Colombe – with Andrew Duff proving to be instrumental in his role as Front of House Manager, and Andrea Bruce’s influence as Head Pastry Chef extending well beyond her section.

Taking inspiration from each season and the best available produce, the La Petite Colombe team has been working on a fresher menu for Spring, with a lighter touch that suits the warmer days ahead. Comments Norris-Rogers, “I’m currently developing a fresh oyster dish using elements of gazpacho, jalapeño and shiso that I can’t wait to share with diners.”

Norris-Rogers concludes, “Personally, this year has had it all! Challenging, exciting and a true eye-opening experience. It’s been a fantastic year of learning and I look forward to what is in store for La Petite Colombe in the future.”

Thursday’s the New Friday at the One-Year Old Station On Bree

Thursday’s the New Friday at the One-Year Old Station On Bree:

It’s December and the weekend starts early across South Africa. In the Cape Town CBD’s Bree Street, well-heeled global travelers intrigued by The Station on Bree’s convincing commuter experience are already enjoying the venue’s Thursday night summer programme.

The Thursday weekly line-up is hosted by internationally-renowned local DJ, saxophonist and percussion specialist, George Sax, and includes Raella goodman, Lucia Mthiyane and Gershon.

It’s one year since the Station on Bree opened with themed stations brimming with detail and suiting the eclectic tastes of Capetonians and international visitors who recognise hallmarks of the UK’s famous tube system. The concept is hip and colourful with the ‘Mind the Gap’ theme carried throughout the venue from train seating to courtyard bus shelter to underground dance floor.

“Cape Town’s been called the Tavern of the Seas and described as the Fairest Cape in the whole circumference of the earth. She’s clearly an African city with a global outlook. We love the fact that our venue stays true to Cape Town’s three centuries-old reputation as the world’s eclectic meeting place by the sea,” says The Station on Bree founder Neil Basel.

The venue easily fuses the iconic design of the London Underground with the bustling and cosmopolitan atmosphere of Cape Town’s Bree Street. The one-year anniversary of Cape Town’s first underground meeting place also sees the launch of a summer menu to accompany Thursdays @ The Station on Bree.

First trialled last month and continuing in the tradition of ‘unpretentious street food’, The Station on Bree’s holiday season menu offers a casual Mediterranean-infused dining style focused on fresh flavours and simple ingredients. From leisurely lunches to late dinners, visitors have the option of traditional main meals or a choice of small plates that enable a shared approach to group dining.

The Station on Bree guarantees a great night’s entertainment and it’s the food that always takes centre stage at this fantastic venue. The unique, multi-storied venue with a variety of different stations and platforms located throughout sees each providing specific offerings.

Whether you’re looking to begin your day with a morning coffee from artisanal brand Mischu, end the day with an after-work cocktail, enjoy a leisurely dining experience or start your evening off with a bang, the lively, character-filled atmosphere of The Station on Bree provides an ideal day-to-night setting that truly has something for everyone.

When it comes to satisfying the taste buds of commuters with a particular affinity for the noble fruit, The Station on Bree has introduced a Gold (MCC & Champagne) line; a White line (white wine) and a Red line (red wine). Each line essentially offers first class, second class and third class options of wine. Local craft beer is also available on tap.

Station on Bree is located at 207 Bree St, Cape Town City Centre, Cape Town, and is open Tuesdays to Sundays, 11h30 till late. The venue is available for private functions. Like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter or get in touch at info@thestationonbree.co.za.
