Durban ICC Nominated for World Sustainable Travel & Hospitality Awards 2026:
The Durban International Convention Centre (Durban ICC) has been nominated for the 2026 World Sustainable Travel & Hospitality Awards in the World’s Leading Sustainable Organisation category.
The nomination marks another significant milestone for the Durban ICC, which was recently named Africa’s Leading Meetings and Conference Centre for the 21st time at the World Travel Awards.
Now in its third year, these awards features 19 competitive categories, in addition to the Outstanding Contribution honour, bringing the total number of award categories to 20.
According to the organisers, more than 90 nominations from over 35 countries and territories are competing for recognition. The nominees include independent businesses, community initiatives, destinations and international travel brands advancing sustainability across the travel and hospitality sector.
The Durban ICC is competing against Astore from France, Forte Village from Italy, GR-F from Armenia, Metropolitan Touring from Ecuador and Six Senses from India.
Speaking following the announcement, Durban ICC Chief Executive Officer Ms Lindiwe Rakharebe described the nomination as a proud moment for the entire Durban ICC family and a celebration of nearly three decades of commitment, teamwork and excellence.
She said that the nomination was also an opportunity to acknowledge the many partners who have contributed to the Durban ICC’s journey since it opened its doors in 1997.
“This nomination belongs to our entire ecosystem. We are incredibly grateful to our clients, event organisers, government, industry partners and the tourism sector for their trust, collaboration and continued support. Together, we have helped position Durban on the international business events map.”
Over the past 29 years, the Durban ICC has welcomed some of the world’s most significant conferences, conventions, exhibitions, corporate events and entertainment productions. Beyond the events themselves, the Centre has played an important role in driving visitor arrivals, supporting local businesses and contributing to Durban’s wider economic and social development.
“For us, this nomination is not only about where we have been, but also about where we are going. It inspires us to continue raising the bar, creating memorable experiences and showcasing the very best of Durban to the world.”
The awards gala will take place in Paris on 9 December 2026, when the winners will be announced.
