Durban ICC Secures Two Top Honours at World Mice Awards 2026:
The Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre (Durban ICC) has once again cemented its position as a leading business events destination in Africa, securing two prestigious accolades at the World MICE Awards 2026.
The Centre was named Africa’s Best Convention Centre and South Africa’s Best Convention Centre at the awards ceremony held in Jamaica on 12 October 2026. The latest accolades mark the Durban ICC’s fourth win as Africa’s Best Convention Centre, following previous wins in 2020, 2021 and 2023. The Centre has also been recognised six times as South Africa’s Best Convention Centre, highlighting its continued excellence in the business events and conferencing industry.
The World MICE Awards celebrate excellence across the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) sector, recognising organisations that contribute to the growth, innovation and competitiveness of business tourism destinations worldwide.
For the Durban ICC, the latest recognition comes during a significant year for the Centre and the city. The venue has continued to attract major international gatherings, while World Trade Centre Durban secured the bid to host the 2028 World Trade Centers Association Global Business Forum, bringing an international platform for trade, investment and business connectivity to the city.
Durban ICC Chief Executive Officer Lindiwe Rakharebe said the latest recognition reflects the Centre’s evolution beyond its role as a physical events venue. “Our greatest achievement is not simply bringing people into a building, it is creating a platform where ideas can travel, partnerships can begin and opportunities can take shape. Every international gathering hosted in Durban reinforces the city’s connection to the world while creating value for our local economy and communities. These awards belong to the people who make those connections possible every day.”
Rakharebe said the awards also strengthen the Centre’s commitment to maintaining Durban’s position as a competitive international MICE destination.“Durban offers a compelling combination of infrastructure, accessibility, hospitality, culture and a coastal lifestyle. Our responsibility is to turn those advantages into consistently excellent experiences for every organiser and delegate who chooses Durban,” she said.
The Durban ICC continues to focus on sustainable operations, socioeconomic development and opportunities that extend beyond the venue itself, supporting initiatives aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
“This recognition reflects our team’s dedication and the confidence placed in us by our clients, partners and stakeholders. We are grateful to everyone who continues to choose Durban as a place to meet, connect and do business,” Rakharebe said.
