iSchoolAfrica’s and I’M Original #GirlSafe campaign wins “Online Strategy of the Year Award” in the New Generation Awards 2018
Johannesburg, 28 September 2018 —iSchoolAfrica is ecstatic to announce that their #GirlSafe campaign, in partnership I’M Original Productions has won an award at the this year’s New Generation Awards at the prestigious award gala ceremony last night at Monte Casino, in the category Gold Winner Online Strategy of the Year.
The campaign was commissioned by The United States Mission To South Africa and The US Presidents Emergency Plan For Aids Relief (PEPFAR).
The #GirlSafe campaign was created for the youth to add their voice to the call to make Gender Based Violence history. The #GirlSafe campaign is a groundbreaking project, inspiring new Media Change Makers with a key goal of delivering a #GirlSafe South Africa.
The Online Strategy of the Year Award recognises a strategic concept in the digital domain that has managed digital and media diversity in the online sector meaningfully and rigorously, from the planning stage through to implementation and evaluation, to achieve value creation.
Michelle Lissoos, Managing Director at Think Ahead, commented, “We are overjoyed about winning this special award. Since its inception in 2010, the iSchool Press Team programme has grown from strength to strength and has exposed hundreds of youth to a new world of digital literacy. The aim of the programme is to give young South Africa a voice by allowing youth to share their opinions on critical issues that affect them.”

Founded in 2012, the New Generation Social & Digital Media Awards are the largest celebrated digital media awards in the country. Not only do they honour the South African creative agency teams for their innovative use of social and digital media, and cutting-edge use of online media and tools, they also acknowledge corporate companies and their in-house marketing teams from across our region for their work on campaigns that help promote their organisations and brands in ground-breaking ways.

About iSchool Africa Press Team
iSchool Press Team is a unique programme that started in 2010 with the World Cup as a vehicle for youth to get involved in the historic event and share their views and capture the hype around the massive event through short films made on Mac technology. The success of the initiative prompted iSchoolAfrica to immediately launch a complete programme to continue to give young SA a voice and provide a new and sustainable platform for young people of various backgrounds to present their opinions and become vehicles for social change. Viewpoints are captured in one-minute videos where the students brainstorm, script, film and edit their ‘masterpieces’ which are then shared through a multitude of platforms for the world to see.
