Joint Statement by Ceo’s of CHOC and CANSA:

Carlos Queiros – CEO of Childhood Cancer Foundation South Africa (CHOC)
Elize Joubert – CEO of the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA)
For some years now, CANSA and CHOC have been collaborating to promote adequate and appropriate care and support to children affected by cancer and their loved ones.
At the quarterly partnership management meeting held on 8 June 2018 between CHOC and CANSA, the two CEO’s recognised that the ties and collaboration between the two organisations are stronger than ever; and we agreed to collaborate in an even more intentional manner. Our partnership is around providing suitable services and care and support to children affected by cancer and their families, as well as collaboration and support on advocacy and awareness around childhood cancer.
CHOC and CANSA confirmed how much we value the relationship which is based on principles of mutual acknowledgement and respect for each other’s services. Where there are service gaps we will jointly agree on filling them without wasting resources or duplicating services.
We acknowledge that successful co-operative effort is developed through good communication, regular meetings on all levels to co-ordinate and integrate our services, , and ensuring our services complement each other and that we will refer to each other.
We also agreed that the relationship with the doctors in the wards where we work is a crucial aspect of our collaborations and commit to:
• Ensuring that the doctors are aware of the Memorandum of Understanding and that we communicate with each other prior to making a change that will affect the other party.
• Consulting with each other first to co-ordinate services regarding new requests by doctors, particularly, but not only, in the case of requests for services the other party already provides.
• Respecting ward protocols at all times and that these protocols are part of all our training and induction programmes.
We strongly advocate the benefits of good collaboration among all parties and value our strong commitment to advancing co-operation on all levels, so that we can better serve children with cancer and their loved ones.
