Americans Locked-Down Abroad: The Impact of COVID-19:

Johannesburg, South Africa (April 25, 2020) – Former Talent Manager and Entertainment Industry Exec, Charles Belk, has announced the launch of his live talk show, “#JustPackandGo Travel Series hosted by Charles Belk”. The bold new show will premiere on Wednesday, April 29, 2020 at 11am ET / 8am ET, on ZOOM, with the first episode featuring a live interactive forum with five other American citizens that are locked-down in various countries around the world due to COVID-19.

Charles Belk, a Digital Nomad, travel blogger (IG:@blackmanANDabroad), and producer, who has been in South Africa since late January, was originally scheduled to leave Johannesburg on April 22nd. He will be joined by his American friends, Loren Jaffe (Bali, Indonesia), Kenna Williams (Johannesburg, South Africa; IG:@JustMeKenna), Kweku Fleming (Accra, Ghana), Lucia Van Bebber (Cagliari, Italy), and Tyson Jay (Windhoek, Namibia; IG:@kingofharlem22), on the first installment episode of his show. Each panelist will share their unique and different stories about why they are where they are, how being confined abroad during the coronavirus has impacted their lives, and what measures their current country of residency has implemented to combat COVID-19.

South Africa implemented a very strict and defined 21-day nation wide lockdown on March 26th, and extended it for 14 more days until the end of April. Only grocery stores, drug stores, pet supply stores and medical facilities are allowed to be open; with a restricted list of items that could be sold – cigarettes, alcohol, clothes, and electronics, were among many items that were not allowed to be sold. All restaurants are closed for takeout or delivery, and those in the country are not allowed to walk pets or go out for exercise. Other countries took an equally stringent approach with their efforts to contain COVID-19 as well.

“This pandemic is an event that only a few living world citizens have ever experienced before, and it has taken over two hundred thousands lives, and impacted the lives, and livelihoods, of billions of families around the world,” said Belk. “It’s terrible that so many have to suffer, and I am tremendously grateful that the South African government has taken a very well thought out and coordinated effort to mitigate the spread of the virus here in the country.”

Charles Belk was born and raised in Durham, NC, and is a producer at and president of I Will Make You a Star Productions, an international, social/digital marketing and production company. He is also the founder and executive director of Fitting The Description Inc. Charles Belk is a graduate of Durham Hillside High School, and received a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southern California, an MBA from Indiana University, and an Executive Leadership Certificate from Harvard Business School. Former Durham Mayor Bill Bell and the Durham City Council proclaimed March 10, 2016, “Charles Belk and Justified AutoErasure Day” in Durham, as a result of Belk’s efforts with his nationwide #AutoErase legislation, which was signed into law in North Carolina in 2015. A proclamation was also made in recognition of his efforts by the Rhode Island General Assembly. As he has worked from abroad for the last four years while traveling the world, Belk has continued to lend his voice and efforts to causes outside of the United States, including speaking to German middle school students, presenting how to be an active citizen to an international audience in Hungary, and orchestrating a fundraising campaign for an impoverished neighborhood in Kenya. He is the son of Durham resident, Johnnie Belk.
