Bay Actors Leaving For London:

Zwai Mgijima and Xolani Ngesi will be departing for London on Friday, 31 January 2020. The two talented former mentees of the late Dr Winston Ntshona will be embarking on a study tour which includes workshops at the Metropolitan University of London and Essex University. They will also be piloting their new play titled – New Brighton Noah.

The talented duo has been performing together since 1999 and this trip has been made possible through the generous support of the National Arts Council (NAC). They are no strangers to stages abroad having undertaken their first international trip with their mentor, Dr Ntshona, to Scotland in 1995.

The two creatives have been consistently active in South African arts scene for over two decades. Mgijima boasts an illustrious repertoire of being a playwriter, director, producer, actor and published author. Ngesi is also an accomplished performer in his own right.

Mgijima related that he hopes that the study tour will establish a platform for a long-standing fruitful partnership for performers in Nelson Mandela Bay and London. Creative industry veterans such as Dr John Kani, Athol Fugard the late Dr Winston Ntshona and Nomhle Nkonyeni made great strides in placing the City’s footprint on the national arts scene. “It is now up to the current generation to revive this legacy and keep the momentum going” concluded Mgijima.

Ngesi said he was excited about the upcoming trip armed with the wealth of knowledge from their late mentor which they hope to exchange with international artists. They hope that this trip will provide a much-needed boost to the City’s art’s scene.
