Johannesburg, Gauteng, December 7 — Chronicles of the Unemployed is a book written to help guide unemployed people through unemployment. It is filled with practical techniques which the author has personally used to survive being unemployed. The book is self-published. Currently Dumi is running a campaign where he uses the book to mentor unemployed young people.
Dumi Mbona became unemployed 10 years ago while still in a youth bracket. He became one of the people who have given up looking for a job. Instead he used his time developing various skills. He used those skills to start several projects including the first of its kind online magazine for Schools in Townships and Rural Areas (www.tagmyschool.co.za ). He did all of this without income, at times homeless (sleeping on friends’ floors and couches).
The book is a result of his refusal to give up even when the society seem to have no space for him. He would like to share his experience with people who do not have an idea what to do upon losing their job. Especially now when there are millions of families losing income because of unemployment.
