FUTURELIFE challenges our nation to stay strong in virtual marathon:
The FUTURELIFE Bambelela Marathon Challenge
9 April 2020, South Africa – FUTURELIFE® will be part of history in the making as the final countdown begins for the biggest ever virtual marathon, the FUTURELIFE® Bambelela Marathon Challenge.
Inspired by South Africa’s lockdown and everyone’s efforts to flatten the COVID-19 curve, the goal of the FUTURELIFE® Bambelela Marathon Challenge is to involve the whole family in a fitness event that promotes both mental and physical health in these unprecedented times.
Taking place on Easter Monday, 13 April 2020, the FUTURELIFE® Bambelela Marathon Challenge is a virtual running event open to runners and walkers of all ages. Competitors can choose to run or walk 5, 10, 21 or 42km – as long as they remain in the confines of their own properties and finish within the allocated time.
And, it’s for a great cause! All proceeds raised by the FUTURELIFE® Bambelela Marathon are being donated to the Hillcrest Aids Centre Trust (HACT) COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund and its services supporting the most vulnerable during the COVID-19 pandemic.
FUTURELIFE®’s Marketing Director, Bhavna Maharaj, says that with the issues the nation is facing being in the COVID-19 lockdown, the decision to back the virtual marathon was an easy choice. It aligns perfectly with the company’s vision and provides an opportunity for FUTURELIFE® to assist in uplifting the country as well as raising much needed funds for a worthy cause.
“FUTURELIFE is a functional food company that aims to truly transform and improve the health and well-being of South Africans. What better way to do this during the 21-day lockdown than to bring all South Africans together in a family-oriented challenge that also supports the amazing work being done by the Hillcrest Aids Centre Trust,” Maharaj explains.
HIV/AIDS has been a part of FUTURELIFE®’s NGO support programme since the company’s inception. Its foundation, Zero2Five, helps formerly disadvantaged children reach their developmental milestones in their formative years, providing the essential support they need to reach their full potential for a prosperous future life.
“Many of the children and the families supported by Zero2Five are living with HIV/AIDS and we understand the impact this has on their lives,” says Maharaj. “HACT and FUTURELIFE® share the same goals and so it made sense to show our full support for the organisation by helping to raise funds for them through the FUTURELIFE® Bambelela Marathon.”
The FUTURELIFE® Bambelela Marathon Challenge is the brainchild of Durban runner and race organiser, Myles Buxtun. He is thrilled that FUTURELIFE® has put its weight behind the event.
“FUTURELIFE® was our first choice as a sponsor as their vison and brand resonate perfectly with our initiative. It took all of about one minute for Bhavna to agree to the sponsorship, and the rest is history,” says Buxtun.
“Bambelela is a Zulu phrase meaning “stay strong” and we are excited that through this event, we will be able to share some positive vibes and help everyone stay strong and fit during the 21-day lockdown,” Buxtun adds.
“Stay strong” resonates with the FUTURELIFE® products which contain proven functional ingredients to support immunity and make you stronger from within. With the COVID-19 pandemic sweeping the world and now impacting South Africa too, building immunity has never been more important – and staying both physically and mentally strong is imperative.
Maharaj says the FUTURELIFE® Bambelela Marathon Challenge is about so much more than people running around their gardens. It is a pledge that together we can and will “stay strong”.
“Through this sponsorship, FUTURELIFE® can help to amplify the message behind the Marathon Challenge and increase the number of entries. This will help raise the funds so desperately needed by HACT and ensure its dedicated team, who are working at the frontline of this pandemic, can continue doing what they do best – saving and transforming lives.”
FUTURELIFE® challenges all South Africans to stay strong, stay healthy and support HACT by being part of the biggest virtual marathon ever. For further information and to enter the FUTURELIFE® Bambelela Marathon Challenge visit www.hillaids.org.za
