Lockdown continues, but criminals are back on the streets, says Beagle Watch:

Under Level 4 of the Lockdown regulations, the general public is still urged to stay at home and work from home as far as possible. Unfortunately, since the relaxation of the hard Lockdown, criminals have started making their return a vengeance. This is the view of Beagle Watch Armed Response.

While some industries have been able to embark on the risk-adjusted and phased approach to reopening their businesses, the majority of the population is still at home. “However, criminals are back on the streets,” says André Aiton, General Manager of Beagle Watch Armed Response.

Since the introduction of Level 4 on 1 May, the company has noticed an increase in criminal activity.

“There has been a marked increase in house break-ins, trespassing, reports of suspicious activity, and street robberies in the last week,” notes Aiton. “We are almost back to pre-Lockdown levels.”

Beagle Watch offers safety tips for Lockdown Level 4 and beyond

The security company is urging the public to be alert and extra vigilant and shares a few basic safety tips.

• Don’t become complacent about security because you are at home.
• Check that your perimeter security is in working condition, e.g electric fence, garden beams, etc
• Ensure that doors and gates are locked and windows without burglar bars are closed.
• Keep a panic button close-by.
• Ensure that no valuable items are visible from your perimeter.
• Clear the areas around the gates of bushes and other hiding places.
• Be vigilant when entering or exiting your driveway or when outside of your property.
• Do not wear jewellery when going out to exercise and keep your mobile phone hidden.
• Activate your alarm when you go out – even if it is just for a short walk or quick shopping trip.
• When at home, keep doors and gates locked and activate garden alarm equipment whenever possible.
• At night, ensure that all windows and doors are locked. Close curtains or blinds and move easy-to-snatch items such as cellphones, laptops and jewellery out of sight and away from windows and doors.
