The stress associated with modern life can take a toll on one’s health and wellbeing if it is not adequately managed, but taking time out to play a round of golf or work out one’s frustrations in the gym often feels like a luxury one cannot afford.
“While a certain amount of stress can be healthy and stimulating, we know that sustained excessive stress can potentially lead to burnout. A little relaxation time spent doing something you enjoy, preferably incorporating physical activity, can greatly assist in counteracting the effects of daily stress to improve one’s state of mind, work performance and sense of wellbeing,” says Denelle Morais, Product Development Manager for the innovative Zurreal wellbeing and rewards programme.
“Interestingly, leisure activities that are somewhat challenging often feel more fulfilling and provide a sense of achievement. There is an old joke about how the game of golf was named, ‘all the other four-letter words were already taken’, which illustrates how tough the game can be, yet we see how enormously popular golf is among business executives.
“We understand that rewards programmes should not contribute to stress through the imposition of complex points structures and unobtainable tiers of benefits, and we have therefore designed our programme in such a way as to maximise every opportunity to support wellbeing, and one important aspect of this is stress relief.
“This is why our rewards programme has been crafted to foster opportunities for personal growth and relaxation, and reward people for taking part in the stress-busting activities they enjoy. It is becoming an increasingly popular option, particularly for small to medium enterprises, as a staff incentive and cost-effective opportunity for teambuilding,” Morais points out.
According to Morais, there are no complicated points systems or moving goal posts for the achievement of the meaningful cash-back rewards that the programme offers for taking part in various activities.
“Some people prefer the physical challenge of taking part in other outdoor sporting events, or may choose to take part in educational courses for mental stimulation, and we provide cash incentives to members for pursuing these interests.
“Unlike many other rewards programmes, Zurreal Platinum members are not expected to adjust their lifestyles to fit in with our rewards programme, as we have tailored our product to be relevant and appealing for a broad spectrum of interests. While we offer handsome rebates for gym membership, we understand that this form of exercise does not appeal to everyone, and we seek to offer something for everyone.”
Golfing Zurreal Platinum members can earn up to R4 500 cash per year for playing three rounds of golf each month, in addition to other cash rewards available, including up to R2 000 for completing certain sporting events, R5 000 for passing a course through any registered South African educational institution and up to R12 000 for regular attendance at any gym in South Africa.
Golfing enthusiasts will also appreciate the 20% discount on an official SA Golf Association (SAGA) -affiliated membership card, discounts at most golf clubs across South Africa, and up to R200 savings per round. “An official SAGA golf handicap allows members to compete in corporate golf days and competitions, and they can access two free lessons with a PGA professional,” she adds.
“We are finding that some members use this clever savings tool to fund more comprehensive medical scheme cover than they may otherwise be able to afford. Members are also rewarded for having their routine health checks and even for complying with their prescribed chronic medication programme, and in total can earn up to R28 500 per year in cash-back rewards.”
Cash-back rewards are paid into members’ Zurreal Healthcard and can be used to pay for healthcare services and related costs. At the end of each year, members have the choice to be paid out in cash or keep their savings for the future.
Members have access to additional services including telephonic financial counselling and tax advice, legal advice, health advice from nurses in a number of South African languages, a telephone trauma counselling service and online health advice from a team of dieticians, physiotherapists and life coaches to help address stress and its root causes.
“For those who enjoy indulging in a little retail therapy, Zurreal members also have access to an impressive array of some 6 000 special deals and discounts including savings on airtime and mobile data, travel and entertainment,” Morais adds.
“The simplicity of our rewards programme and the outstanding range of relevant benefits afforded through Zurreal Platinum make it exceptionally user-friendly and truly rewarding – especially when perfecting your form with our golf benefits helps you to achieve a hole in one,” she concludes.
