Run Alex Athletics Club benefits from the Absa Run Your City Strava campaign:

Johannesburg, November 2022 – The proudly pan-African bank, Absa, has done it again. On Tuesday, 29 November, Absa and the Run Alex Athletics Club gathered at the Altrec Sports Centre, Alexandra in Alexander township to hand over funds that were raised through the Absa Run Your City Joburg 10K.
This handover follows the introduction of the Absa Run Your City campaign that was launched earlier in the year titled Together we can be more, Siyabangena,a strategic campaign that encourages Absa colleagues, customers, and communities to be to Be a Force for Good in their respective communities. By joining Team Absa Walk/Run on Strava and participating in the race, the participants of the Absa Run Your City Joburg 10k raised R125 000 which will go a long way in growing the running community.
The 2022 Absa Run Your City Joburg 10k took place on Saturday, 24 September 2022, and 125 000km were run/walked on Strava during this period.
Ronnie Mbatsane – Group Head of SME Business at Absa said, “The Absa Run Your City series helps us drive our strategic pillars of being closer to our customers, colleagues and the community with the campaign specifically focused on the pillar of being closer to communities. We pride ourselves in making possibilities come to life.”
“Our townships face great challenges in sports development, and we know that finding solutions to these might not be an easy resolve. However, as a bank, our role in communities requires that we create a meaningful impact whenever we can. With these funds, we hope to encourage everyone managing the athletics club to continue mentoring and guiding their members and attracting new ones to the sport. We wish to see the Run Alex athletics club members participating in more competitive athletic programs in the future,” Mbatsane continues.
Run Alex Chairperson Lebogang Mogotlane, said, “We are grateful to Absa for this donation as it will go a long way in ensuring that our members are empowered with the right equipment and gear to hit the streets of Alex.”
“We are one of the few clubs that cater to both pensioners and school-going youth, to make sure they prioritise their physical and mental health. For our youngsters, keeping them active and off the streets is our main goal. Opportunities presented to us by the Absa team will help us take the name of our township to greater heights,” Mogotlane concluded.
