Top performing companies in the Western Cape receive awards
The Western Cape Regional Productivity Awards winners will be selected for participation in the Annual National Productivity Awards at a function to be held today at the Neethlingshof Wine Estate in Stellenbosch, Western Cape. The government entity responsible for promoting productivity and competitiveness in South Africa, Productivity SA, will award best performers at a ceremony which will culminate in the regional award winners competing for the National Productivity Awards to be held in Gauteng on 19 October 2018.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Productivity SA, Mothunye Mothiba says “The awards are intended at recognising organisations making significant contribution towards the creation of decent employment in South Africa”. Awards will be conferred in the corporative, emerging and public sectors.
The regional awards provide a platform to inspire a competitive and productive South Africa. Productivity improvement is considered the most effective way of ensuring ongoing competitiveness, economic growth and the creation of decent employment.
South Africa currently faces major challenges such as a need to create employment opportunities, stimulate economic growth and reduce poverty. If South Africa is to reduce unemployment and poverty whilst stimulating economic growth, the country should place emphasis on developing productive capacity in all sectors of the economy.
Productivity SA is established in terms of section 31 (1) of the Employment Services Act, No. 4 of 2014 as a juristic person with the mandate to promote employment growth and productivity thereby contributing to South Africa’s socio-economic development and competitiveness’. Productivity SA is an entity of the Department of Labour (DoL).
As part of assessing productivity of entities, Productivity SA has developed various tools and models that includes measurement tools that determine the extent to which an organisation’s financial performance is influenced by price recovery and productivity. The list of finalists in the Western Cape are:

Co-Operatives Sector – Suurbraak Grain Farmers Co-operative
Public Sector – Department of Transport & Public Works, Western Cape Government, Operating License & Permits Section
