However, some argue that food has been made from scratch for centuries, and with countless recipes available online, it’s possible that Nara simply drew inspiration from the same sources as Onezwa. “Food has been made from scratch all the time, there are many recipes online for making food. Did Nara really steal Onezwa’s content or did she do what has been done before like everyone else does?” As many people were saying in the comments, which is a perspective that suggests that similarities in content might be due to shared inspiration rather than outright theft.
But I would argue and say it’s crucial to acknowledge the importance of crediting others when drawing inspiration from their work. Failing to do so can be seen as disrespectful and unfair to the original creator.
Crediting sources not only shows integrity but also:
- Recognizes the original creator’s effort and contribution
- Allows audiences to explore the original content and support the creator
- Encourages a culture of collaboration and mutual respect
- Helps to build trust and credibility within the creative community
To protect themselves, creators can:
- Watermark their content
- Use copyright symbols
- Post exclusive content on their own websites
- Engage with their audience to build a loyal following
- Monitor their online presence
Platforms must also implement stricter policies and penalties for content theft, and creators must support each other in combating this issue. The unfairness of content theft lies in its ability to strip creators of their credit, income, and motivation. It’s essential to recognize the value of original content and the effort behind it, and to promote a culture of respect, fairness, and proper crediting in the digital world.
